The Garden Players Musical Theater Program for Kids More info ►
Saturday, September 08, 2018, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
It’s time to register your children for the Garden Players—an innovative musical theater acting and singing program for children 1st grade-9th grade. Betina Hershey leads the group in improvisational exercises that encourage individuality and courageous self-expression, plus vocal exercises that strengthen the voice. Each class studies selections from well known musicals during the first semester. During the second semester, the actors work on an original, fully staged musical that they will perform on May 18 and 19, 2019 at the Community House. Classes are on Tuesdays or Fridays. Starting in March there will be weekend rehearsals on Sundays between the hours of 1-5pm. You may pre-register by mail or come in person on September 8th from 12:30-2:30pm to the Music Room at Church-in-the-Gardens. Contact Betina Hershey at 917-204-5647, , or go to www.gardenplayers.com
Movie Night More info ►
Second Saturday of the month, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
We need a volunteer to come to Movie Night who knows how to run the DVR. This person would basically be responsible for running the DVR movie and would be a guest of the church. Helen Howey will get the DVD from Netflix and she will still be taking RSVPs. The movies are chosen by the group and a list of 5-6 movies should be chosen in advance; each member gets to select his/her favorite. The company is good and the dinner excellent, so if you want to volunteer, or just come, please contact Helen Howey in the church office. (718-268-6704)
The evening begins in the Lounge with a delicious POT LUCK dinner that is notably strong on desserts. Members arrive at 6:00 pm, and we begin eating by 6:30. The movie starts at 7:30 without fail. Please RSVP to Helen Howey (718-268-9142) to let her know what food you will be bringing to share. Your dish should be enough for six to eight servings. New members are especially welcome!
September 8: Churchill This is a 2017 British historical war drama film directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and stars Brian Cox as Churchill, with Miranda Richardson and John Slattery in supporting roles. The plot is about the actions of Winston Churchill in the hours leading up to D-Day. Tensions mount for the beleaguered British Prime Minister as D-Day nears in June 1944. Fearful of repeating past mistakes, Churchill is reluctant to embark on the large-scale campaign that the entire war effort hinges upon. Clashing with his political opponents, the troubled leader receives unwavering support from his devoted wife, Clementine. With strength and shrewdness, she tries to prevent his physical, mental and spiritual collapse while inspiring him to achieve greatness.
