Cub Scout Pack 96 of Forest Hills and the members of the U. S. Marine Corps League, Detachment 204,of Queens, are collecting for the 21st Annual Toys for Tots Program. New, unwrapped toys will be distributed to less fortunate children in five homeless shelters throughout Queens. Please place toys in the Toys for Tots box in the Parish House. It will be there until December 11th.

Wanted: Winter Coats

The Cub Scouts will be collecting winter coats in good condition to be given to those in need. Check your closets to see which coats you no longer use. After they are collected the Cub Scouts will parade down Austin Street from the church to the 112th Police Precinct with a police escort. Look for the collection boxes outside Room 102. The last date for donating coats is Dec 13th. Don’t be confused by the Toys for Tots box that is also located near room 102. Any questions, contact Judy Allen 917-440-7914

The Greening of the Sanctuary More info ►

Our annual “Greening of the Sanctuary” will take place on Saturday, December 9th from 9 am to 1 pm. Please come join us for this joyous event. We come together to hang wreaths, greenery, ribbons and bows to transform our worship space, as we await to hear from the Angels.             We all may donate for the greens, poinsettias and other decorations by completing the donation form in the Sunday bulletin and sending a check made out to The Church-in-the-Gardens with “Christmas Greens” or “Poinsettia” written on your check memo line. If you are not able to get to church to complete the form, you may send your check directly to Jacqui-Maria Russell in the church office. Fun For All Ages More info ►

On Saturday morning, December 9th, from 9 am until 1 pm, children of all ages are warmly invited to create ornaments for the Church Christmas tree. This Fun-for-All-Ages Event is a “make one – take one” activity where children may make an ornament to take home as well. Meet us in the Lounge for some fun crafting, yummy refreshments and Christmas music. Adults can help make ornaments or participate in the “Greening of the Sanctuary” that is taking place in the Sanctuary during the same time.

Movie Night

The evening will begin in the Lounge with a delicious POT LUCK dinner which is notably strong on desserts. Members arrive at 6:00 pm, and we begin eating by 6:30. The movie starts at 7:30 without fail. Please RSVP to Helen Howey (718-268-9142) to let her know what food you will be bringing to share. Your dish should be enough for six to eight servings. New members are especially welcome!

The Shack is a 2017 American Christian drama adapted from the novel of the same name by William P. Young. The film stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Graham Greene, Radha Mitchell, Alice Braga, Sumire Matsubara, Aviv Alush and Tim McGraw. Mackenzie "Mack" Phillips suffered physical and emotional abuse as a child at the hands of his drunken father. He witnessed similar abuse of his mother as well. But as an adult he has a bountiful life with his wife, Nan, and their three children: Kate, Josh and Missy. Mack's life is shattered, however, when disappears during a camping trip while he is saving Kate and Josh during a canoeing accident. The tragedy derails Mack's life until the onset of winter when he receives an anonymous unstamped, typewritten note in his mailbox. The message is signed "Papa" (which was Nan's nickname for God) and invites him to a meeting at the cabin. To meet the anonymous correspondent, you’ll have to see the movie. Saturday Dec 9: Lion — a 2016 biographical film directed by Garth Davis and written by Luke Davies, based on the non-fiction book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley with Larry Buttrose. The film stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman. In 1986, Saroo, a five-year-old boy, lives with his brother Guddu, his mother and sister in Khandwa, India. Guddu and Saroo steal coal from freight trains to trade for milk and food. One day, Saroo follows his brother to a job and they arrive at a nearby train station, where Saroo decides to stay back and take a nap. Later when Guddu does not return, Saroo gets on the train looking for his brother who is not on board. What follows is a beautiful human story.
